The 2-Word Phrase That Conquers Adversity and Breaks Through Obstacles
"All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me. . . . You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you. "
Throughout our lives we are often faced with Obstacles or Adversity. All too often however, we let our obstacles become our adversity or our adversity become our obstacles.
If you look back on your life, you may see this as well.
What I've found is a simple two word phrase for a person who is ready to conquer both.
That phrase is "R.E.A.L. S.M.A.R.T." It's an acronym that tells us the steps we need to take in order to achieve our objective of conquering our obstacle or adversity.
Here's why a person who is ready to conquer their adversity is R.E.A.L. S.M.A.R.T.
A "R.E.A.L." person is a person who: Realizes Everything's Always Learned
This simply means taking the time to think, understand and most of all learn what and where our obstacles are. The next part of the process is learning what we need to know in order to overcome our obstacle or adverstiy.
When you Realize Everything's Always Learned, you will also realize that this is a circular process, and one that must be repeated for each obstacle or adversity we face in our lives.
"Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow." Anthony J. D'Angelo
Now although the S.M.A.R.T. principle is one that is used in business, I firmly believe that many of the principles of business can and must me applied in our lives.
So here it is:
SMART = Specific + Measurable + Achievable + Realistic + Timely
Specific: A goal needs to be exact and clearly stated. Vague and general terms are not goals. Your brain needs to focus on a specific target.
Measurable: How do you know when the goal is completed? When stating your goal you should state how you are going to measure when it is complete. If you don't know the measurement then you will never know that you have achieved it.
Achievable: Your goal must be attainable. If you have not learned what you need to know in order to attain your goal, then you must either learn it and then apply or find someone to assist you that already knows what you don't. Think about past achievements or failures in your life and apply some of the lessons that you learned.
Realistic: Being realistic is a bit tricky. What may be realistic for you may not be realistic for others. You can see this truth throughout your life. Keep your goal within boundaries that you set and upgrade how realistic it is as you get closer or achieve more.
Timely: Keep a specific time of day for working towards your goal. In addition to that, keep a timeline of when you intend on completing each portion of your goal. Keep track of each item completed and when. Tracking is an essential element in achievement.
This was taken from another article I wrote called "Why Taking Action Is Not The Answer". Where ever the word "goal" is mentioned, you will realize that conquering your obstacle or adversity is now your goal.
The REAL SMART principle should be applied any time an obstacle or adversity presents itself in our lives or businesses. There is more to be learned from them than any other time in our lives. With that said, I leave you this...

Discover Your Path to Success - Part 3
If you have read this far, we both know you are serious about succeeding, getting the most out of life, and attaining your goals. Now, how do you "keep the fire burning" during life's daily struggle? It's simple really, but will require the patience to take each task into consideration, without doing everything at once.
(excerpted from the book Seven Strategies for Wealth and Happiness)Wouldn't it be wonderful to be motivated to achievement by such a lofty goal as benevolence? I must confess, however, that in the early years of my struggle to succeed, my motivation was a lot more down-to-earth. My reason for succeeding was more basic.
The Definition of WIN!
When you look into the eyes of a winner, what do you see? Perhaps you notice a fire of passion, determination, resilience, and a sense of self confidence that screams, "I can do it! Nothing can stop me from winning!"We've all seen winners in our personal and professional lives. They are the determined ones with a strong resolve and unwavering sense of purpose in everything they do.

A few weeks ago I took my boy on a trip that we make together every year. We left the house at 6 am on Monday and got home at 9 pm on Thursday.
Dare to Dream Again
Do you remember when you were a child and no dream seemed too big? Some of us thought we would walk on the moon; some dreamed of riding with Roy Rogers; others imagined stepping to the plate in a big-league game. Every one of us, when we were young, had a common trait - we were dreamers.
The Clichés of Success
The problem with writing about success is that almost everything ends up sounding like a cliché. It has all been said before.
Reach Your Goals - Create A Soundtrack
Choose a personal theme song and soundtrack that stirs you and refocuses you on your goal What would a superhero be without theme music? And what about those soundtracks used in the movies to make sure that those of us in the audience are either gripping our seats or bawling our eyes out on cue? Why not do the same for your life? Choose a song that seems to "say it all" about how you feel about your goal, or that just plain inspires you to do your best, then pick a "soundtrack" of other supporting songs to go along with it. Make a tape, burn a CD, or download clips onto your computer - whatever works for you.
Success Takes Practice
As a speaker and trainer, people often approach me after one of my programs to tell me how excited they are about the strategies they have learned and how they plan to put these ideas into action. When I connect with these people later on and ask how the techniques are working for them, I usually get answers such as "I really planned to use them but then things got so crazy that I never had the chance.

Study hard, get good grades and you will have a bright future! I am pretty sure many of you have been brainwashed by your teachers with this statement when you were students. And your perception of a bright future is most likely to become a lawyer, doctor, engineer, businessman.
Barriers to Prosperity
An odd but frequent barrier to prosperity is the belief that we're the "wrong type" to live an abundant life. This comes down to a whole attitude about ourselves which places us as a "misfit".
What Bowling and Success Have In Common
I was flying home from a seminar in Atlanta yesterday afternoon on Delta and they have TVs on each seat.It was 1pm and I was a bit tired, so I was channel surfing and wouldn't have minded if I just fell asleep for the trip.
The Synchronicity of Success
I love the idea of synchronicity.Perhaps it's just part of my need for validation that the universe is orderly and consistent.

Gracefully Accepting Feedback a Key Employment Skill
With the long-term trend of protecting employees' individual self esteem added to an overriding concern over expensive employee lawsuits, accountability is more a buzzword than a way of life at most companies. This is a state of mind that has existed since the 1960s, so the average employee has never received real quality negative feedback -- the kind of feedback that might help startle him or her out of career-dashing behavior and toward a more lucrative and successful work life.
